We travelled to Izmir, Turkey and met our travel guide. We enjoyed a beautiful greeting from costune Turks in traditional dress with lovely music. We travelled to two incredible places while here. One was the House of the Virgin Mary and the other was Ephesus.
When we reached the House of the Virgin Mary site, it was very humbling. Amazing to be in this historic and holy site. I was blessed to be able to witness such a beautiful and holy place.
It is the supposed site where the Blessed Mary spent her last days. While I cannot be totally sure, the surroundings and the knowledge that so many people came to this humble place and prayed to Mother Mary was in itself humbling for me.
It is a small simple house with two small rooms. Inside there is a shrine to Mother Mary. They asked that no pictures are taken but some people did anyway. The "bath ruins you see in the pictures below were supposed to be where people were baptized.
It is a really great place to visit and I would recommend seeing it. The wall message board holds so many prayers to the Blessed Virgin. The holy water fountain is where people blessed themselves.
It was worth the visit for sure.
Enjoy!

The message board where millions of messages are posted to the Holy Virgin. |
The message wall where thousands leave a last blessing request. So humbling and precious. I was so happy to be able to say I was really here.
Hope you enjoy this post. See my other post on Ephesus.
Thanks folks!
